Flying Like a Bird

In this incredible YouTube video, Jarno Smeets takes a running start and then lifts off the ground by flapping his massive brightly colored wings and manages to stay airborne for about 30 seconds.

In this most recent attempt, he was able to fly up to 100 meters, IT World reports.

A mechanical engineer, Smeets' success is the fruit of eight months of research and design for his Human Birdwings Project.

Mickey Mouse Made to Look His Age

Mickey Mouse was born in November of 1928, which makes him 83 years old today. Luckily for those who ever wondered what the mouseman would look like if he ever did age, using skills honed from a mask making class, artist Darick Maasen has created a vision of what Mickey would look like today, assuming micemen live on the same age lifecycle as humans.

World’s First Vertical Forest – Bosco Verticale

The world’s first vertical forest, Bosco Verticale, is designed by the Milan based architect Stefano Boeri. The towers, a residential duo, can be seen in the metropolis center of Milan, Italy.

The architect explains his design on his website here:
Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) is a project for metropolitan reforestation that contributes to the regeneration of the environment and urban biodiversity without the implication of expanding the city upon the territory. Bosco Verticale is a model of vertical densification of nature within the city….

The first example of a Bosco Verticale composed of two residential towers of 110 and 76 meters height, will be realized in the centre of Milan, on the edge of the Isola neighbourhood, and will host 900 trees (each measuring 3, 6 or 9 m tall) apart from a wide range of shrubs and floral plants.

On flat land, each Bosco Verticale equals, in amount of trees, an area equal to 10,000 sqm of forest. In terms of urban densification the equivalent of an area of single family dwellings of nearly 50,000 sqm.

Vintage Car Bookshelf

Dutch design studio Denieuwegeneratie converted a vintage Jaguar into a tall bookshelf for the interior of their newly-built Dutch Mountain underground villa. By removing its engine, cutting out a large rectangular window in the roof, and placing the vintage Jaguar upright, the once active vehicle is transformed into an intriguingly attractive storage unit and shelving space. The trunk even serves as a lower cabinet.

The World's Largest Slingshot

The world’s largest slingshot is made by Bros from DudePerfect cutting down a tree and making a giant slingshot out of it and is used to slam dunk a baseball successfully.

That would be just the perfect thing to play a real-life game of Angry Birds!

Microwave Case Mod

This is a very old, but very clever casemod where the modder turned his microwave into a computer. The LCD screen is of course built into the window and it looks great with that screensaver that shows a plate of food going round and round. All of the buttons on the microwave have been rewired to control the computer.

Accessories include a slot DVD drive in the top of the microwave, and the power supply, cable connectors and vents have been installed in the back.
