Titanic Belfast
Something wonderful is about to happen in Belfast, Northern Ireland. A hundred years after the Titanic set sail on her catastrophic maiden voyage a new center dedicated to the ship, her makers and passengers, will open in the city which built her. Titanic Belfast stands magnificent and resplendent in the very place the great ship was built. It is a structure as colossal as the ship it honors.

Tour Inside Titanic - 1912
Titanic was a passenger liner that struck an iceberg on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City, and sank on 15 April 1912, resulting in the deaths of 1,517 people in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.
The interior of the R.M.S. Titanic was lavish. It offered every luxury that could be enjoyed in 1912. After the mechanics of the ship, the interior was the most detailed. Hand carved oak, teak and maple woodwork was everywhere. Only the most lavish furniture was used. The bathrooms were finished in the most modern style of the times complete with showers, bath tubs and double sinks. There was even flushing toilets on board the ship. Huge dinning rooms sat several hundred and after a good meal passengers could retire to one of the several smoking lounges for drinks and cards.
There was a complete, up-to-date gymnasium for workouts and even a regulation sized indoor swimming pool. There were clothing shops, a barbershop and a beauty salon. Racketball courses were on deck along with areas for other games. The Titanic was the most luxurious ocean liner ever built at the time. The Titanic was a British registered four funneled ocean liner built for the transatlantic passenger and mail service between Southampton and New York. Constructed at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland she was, at the time of her maiden voyage, the largest vessel afloat.
On April 10th 1912 the Titanic set sail from Southampton with 2,200 passengers and crew, four days later the Titanic collided with an iceberg and sank. 1500 people died and 700 survived. According to legend the Titanic was conceived at a meeting between Lord Pirrie of Harland & Wolff and Bruce Ismay, Chairman of the White Star Line. The vessels would forsake speed for increased safety and comfort. While millionaire passengers would grab headlines, vastly increased steerage capacity and accommodation for the growing middle class would drive economic success. After a construction period of nearly three years the Titanic, commanded by veteran Captain Edward John Smith, departed in Southampton on 10th April 1912 never to return.
